Knowing, On What Grounds

Heather Couch

This work starts from an exploration of process as a method of inquiry, and uses invention to serve as a reflection of the everyday life from which it is made.  Pursuing tenuousness and a sense of the precarious, there is simultaneously an underpinning of warmth and rhythmic structure.  Themes such as variability, affordance, potential collapse, and intentional arbitrariness appear in the forms and materials as well as the content of the work.  Playing with creating and limiting opportunity, the use of fixed data is at times employed to form aesthetic structures, often connecting to personal narratives and idealistic mismatches.  www.heathercouchart.com
